Most barbershop singers will tell you there are only four in a quartet . . . but North
Shore Four, despite its name, is an exception to the rule.
The North Shore Four name has been registered with SPEBSQSA, the international
Barbershop Harmony Society, since 1988. Composed entirely of members of the North Shore
Chapter of SPEBSQSA, North Shore Four is the chapter's "house" quartet,
performing on any occasion when no other organized quartet from the chapter is available.
Participation in North Shore Four is open to all chapter members who know the repertoire
of the chapter's Shoreliner Chorus; any permutation of these members whose combined sound
is satisfactory when singing together in a quartet may represent the chapter as a version
of North Shore Four.
Over the years, North Shore Four has entertained listeners at numerous civic functions,
private parties, corporate events, charity fundraisers, and barbershop chapter events.
They have brightened the spirits of shut-ins at nursing homes, hospital patients, Armed
Forces veterans, and residents of facilities for the disabled. They have acted as a
centerpiece at North Shore Chapter recruitment activities throughout the community, often
thrilling prospective members with their first taste of good barbershop harmony.
North Shore Four has also served as North Shore Chapter's philanthropic arm, raising
thousands of dollars expressly for the chapter from paid public performances. Click here to find out about North Shore Four's next performance.
So the answer to the question, "How many are in your quartet?" is . . .
Four men at any one time . . . more heart than you can count, for all
time.
